Introducing ThreatLocker

ThreatLocker is a zero-trust security program that prevents malicious software from running on your computer.

The Basics of ThreatLocker

ThreatLocker is installed on your computer by your IT administrator and is designed to prevent malicious software from running on your computer, much like traditional anti-virus software. Unlike traditional anti-virus software, ThreatLocker takes a zero-trust approach to protect your computer, which means ThreatLocker will sometimes block non-malicious software if the software hasn’t already been approved to run by your IT admin. You’ll be notified when a program is blocked from running on your computer.

Watch the 3-minute video below to find out what you need to do if a program is blocked.

How Does ThreatLocker Affect You?

Most importantly, ThreatLocker affects you by maintaining a secure environment for you and your co-workers by protecting your computer from malicious software and unauthorized access.

There may be times when ThreatLocker blocks a software program or a feature of a software program from running, which may impede upon your work until the software can be approved by our Help Desk. If you follow the procedures for requesting access to something that is blocked, the software or feature will become unblocked within a matter of minutes. If you have an emergency or if ThreatLocker continues to block a software program after you’ve requested access, you can call our help desk at 530-500-6767 for immediate assistance.

The pop-up below will appear next to your icon tray in the bottom-right corner of your screen. This indicates ThreatLocker has detected an unknown program attempting to run on your computer. The pop-up will tell you what was blocked, and allow you to send us a request to install the software or ignore future alerts about the blocked software.

How Does ThreatLocker Work?

ThreatLocker leverages Allow-Listing and Deny-Listing mechanisms to regulate the execution of applications on endpoints. The Allow-Listing approach ensures that only approved and authorized applications are allowed to run, significantly reducing the attack surface and preventing the execution of unauthorized or potentially malicious software.

The solution also incorporates behavior analysis and containment techniques to identify and neutralize threats in real time. By monitoring the behavior of applications, ThreatLocker can detect anomalies or suspicious activities that may indicate a security threat. In the event of a potential threat, the system can take immediate action, such as containment or blocking, to prevent further harm.

Furthermore, ThreatLocker features advanced policy management capabilities, allowing organizations to define and enforce security policies based on their specific needs. This granular control enables administrators to tailor security measures to the unique requirements of their environment.
